The film industry is one where people are always in need of looking ahead to their next project once the current on they are working on is completed. It is not always like a traditional job with set hours and days, but it does allow for the necessary time needed to give artistic and creative input through the use of deep work. In order to reach the higher points of the industry though people find themselves working on smaller projects such as freelancing and video editing to help build up their portfolio. But how does one help to build up such as portfolio while balancing their current job, personal life, and other obligations? The answer is deep work. And not only does it help people to schedule out all of their goals and dreams, it also allows for the best output and quality of work a person can achieve when fully invested without outside distractions.
As technology becomes more involved and upgraded, people now have the opportunity to communicate but also work from almost anywhere in the world. Traditional work hours are becoming a thing of the past and going into “work” can now be right in a persons living room or local coffee shop in what is being called the Gig economy. People are have begun looking to work online away and away from traditional regular jobs, and because of this it allows them to apply deep work to its fullest potential. Unfortunately, though will all of the benefits also comes the concern of distractions. Through this paper I will explain how people can accomplish deep work in the Gig economy without becoming distracted by the constant presence of technology and the internet. People will be able to balance deep work in their regular jobs which can help to free up time for their other job of freelancing editing.
